Navigation systems? Sure, the fancy systems built into luxury cars and SUVs are nicer than a Garmin or a Tom Tom. But those portable navigation systems can deliver a lot of information. The ride quality, handling precision and power available from a BMW 3 series or a Cadillac CTS-V coupe aren’t to be found in a run-of-the-mill mass market car. Reuters: Honda to sell plug-in hybrid and electric cars in 2012
At a news conference, Chief Executive Takanobu Ito, outlining the firm’s medium-term strategy, said Honda was planning to sell a plug-in hybrid vehicle and a battery-powered electric model in Japan and the United States in 2012. Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp is planning to bring a plug-in hybrid to market in 2011 and recently formed an alliance with California start-up Tesla Motors to develop electric vehicles. ecogeek.org: Nissan to Use LEAF Drivetrain in Sports Car
Now that the LEAF has proved itself to be in high demand, Nissan is planning to expand its line of LEAF-related vehicles. According to Inside Line, a Nissan source has confirmed that it will be using the LEAF drivetrain in both a luxury vehicle and a sports car. The luxury vehicle will be branded as an Infiniti, while there’s no news yet of what shape the sports car may take. So far, it looks like the 370Z and Essence Coupe are the most likely candidates, but we won’t know until Nissan makes an offical announcement. Full Story…

The social networking, micro-blogging trend is already a mainstay of the tech-savvy generation, but why would anyone want a car to send Twitter messages? And how is that possible? The car that could Twitter is AJ, a 2011 Ford Fiesta that’s a test bed for company engineers exploring the boundaries of what’s possible when an automobile is connected to the Internet and all of its concomitant services. In May, a team of Ford engineers drove AJ from Ann Arbor, Mich., to San Mateo, Calif., to participate in the Maker Faire. Along they way, AJ sent out Twitter messages. Full Story…
